Historic Preservation of Matthews
Preserving Matthews means preserving our small town feel and our history – both institutional and structural. I have deep ties to the Matthews Historical Foundation (MHF) and the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee (HPAC) through my wife Penny who serves on the MHF Board and on HPAC. The Matthews Heritage Museum, owned and operated by the MHF with support from the town, does a wonderful job of preserving the institutional history of Matthews. I have supported the efforts of the MHF and HPAC in preserving our structural history as well. Through these efforts the town has been able to help preserve Outen Pottery, the Nancy Reid House, the Sustare House, and the Star of St. Matthews Lodge #566, among others. These properties are all designated local historic landmarks. I also encouraged and supported the move of a historic wash house from a construction site to the Purser-Hulsey Community Garden. I have been and will continue to be a consistent voice in Matthews that strongly supports historic preservation.
What Can You Do?
Make sure you get out to vote on November 5th but if you want to do more to help preserve Matthews, you can contribute to my campaign.
